Kylea Tink Appointed CEO of Foodbank Australia: A New Chapter in the Fight Against Hunger

In a milestone appointment for Australia’s biggest food relief charity, Foodbank Australia has welcomed Kylea Tink as its new Chief Executive Officer from October 27, 2025. Tink replaces Brianna Casey, who has been at the helm of the organization since June 2016 and stepped down earlier this year after notifying the organization of her resignation.

An Experienced Leader with a Track Record

Kylea Tink has extensive experience across both the public and not-for-profit sectors. Before being appointed, she was the independent Member of Parliament for North Sydney from 2022-2025, a term characterized by her work on climate action and social justice. She was a major leader before joining politics, having been the Managing Director of Edelman Australia, CEO of the McGrath Foundation, and CEO of Camp Quality. Her mixed heritage provides her with the strategic vision and drive to direct Foodbank Australia in the fight against food insecurity.

Addressing the Growing Challenge of Food Insecurity

Foodbank Australia’s move to appoint Tink is timely. The organization’s Hunger Report, out every year, indicates that almost one-third of Australian households are at present facing food insecurity. This disconcerting fact emphasizes the need for a good leadership and creative solutions in a fight against hunger in the country.

Tink is dedicated to making this a reality. She reiterates that hunger in Australia is a fixable problem and demands action by individuals, companies, and governments to end food insecurity. “No one in Australia should ever have to concern themselves with what they are going to feed their family or what they are going to eat themselves,” she states. “It’s time we worked to bring that truth to reality.”

Strategic Vision for the Future

With Tink at the helm, Foodbank Australia will have a visionary strategy for securing more than $100 million per annum to sustain the national distribution of a minimum of 120 million kilograms of appropriately nutrition and culturally aligned food relief. Some of the key initiatives are:

Feeding Australian Kids: Providing children with nutritious food.

Supporting First Nations People: Alleviating food insecurity in Indigenous communities.

Foodbank in the Regions: Increased coverage to rural and outlying areas.

Securing Emergency Preparedness and Response: Delivering timely support in times of crisis.

Fueling Healthy Eating: Fostering long-term health through balanced nutrition.

Preventing Food Loss and Waste: Introducing initiatives to minimize food waste.

Foodbank Australia Board Chairperson Duncan Makeig was optimistic that Tink could spearhead these efforts, declaring that she has a vision, energy, and leadership necessary for the organization to keep growing.

A Call to Action

Tink’s appointment is an indication of a stronger resolve to tackle food insecurity in Australia. Her tenure is on the cusp of inspiring systemic transformation and engaging communities to one cause: a hunger-free Australia. Before assuming this critical role, Tink calls out to all Australians to be part of this mission, stating that with their unity, hunger can be eliminated.
