Oxfam Australia Appoints Jennifer Tierney as New Chief Executive

Oxfam Australia announced the appointment of Jennifer Tierney as its new Chief Executive from November 2025. She takes over from Lyn Morgain, who stood down earlier this year after six years as Chief Executive. Tierney has more than two decades of experience in international humanitarian work, and over five years in executive leadership roles. She was most recently Executive Director of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Australia.

A Tested Leader in Humanitarian Action

Tierney’s professional life is distinguished by a passion for social justice and a history of managing complex global issues. Her MSF Australia leadership included leading high-performance teams through emergencies, directing field operations, and driving advocacy on key issues including access to healthcare in armed conflicts. She has a leadership style that balances strategic thinking with direct action, resulting in humanitarian relief delivered to those most affected.

Oxfam Australia’s Strategic Direction

With Tierney as its leader, Oxfam Australia is committed to carrying on its role of challenging the inequities that trap people in poverty. Board Chairperson Dr. Judith Slocombe AM highlighted that Tierney’s wealth of experience and value-led leadership made her the top pick from a high quality of applicants. She added that Tierney’s capacity to manage the difficulties of global issues and her impressive track record of strategic leadership would steer Oxfam into the future.

Looking Ahead

With Oxfam Australia entering this new era, Tierney’s appointment marks a new direction in prioritizing meaningful humanitarian action and social justice campaigning. Her leadership is anticipated to intensify Oxfam’s global inequalities response and increase its engagement with local communities and stakeholders.
